NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang rolled out RTX Spark, a new processor tailored for on-device AI Agent, and put forward the slogan “Reinvent the PC” to reshape the interactive logic of personal computers. However, Ming-Chi Kuo, renowned analyst at TF International Securities, predicts that laptops equipped with RTX Spark will only occupy a niche market in the next two years instead of gaining mainstream popularity, making it premature to call the winner in the AI PC competition between NVIDIA, Apple and other tech giants.

During the product launch, Huang demonstrated the full workflow of on-device AI Agent, speeding up industry consensus over local AI-powered PCs thanks to the high exposure of GTC conference. Prior to GTC, most market discussions about RTX Spark centered on chip specs, manufacturing and supply chain, while operating systems were largely ignored. By elevating OS to an equally important core as silicon, Huang echoed Kuo’s long-held viewpoint: operating systems, rather than powerful chips alone, are the core driver triggering massive PC replacement wave powered by on-device AI.
All eyes are now fixed on Apple’s WWDC kicking off June 8. Beyond Siri’s intelligent upgrade, Apple’s concrete roadmap for on-device AI Agent has turned into the industry’s top concern. Unlike NVIDIA and Microsoft whose core growth comes from AI infrastructure business, Apple’s revenue heavily relies on consumer electronics hardware, with on-device AI serving as the core innovation engine for its product lineup. Therefore, Apple needs more than conceptual marketing; it has to roll out tangible plans including optimized developer kits, updated OS roadmap built for AI Agent and clear schedule for new feature launch.
Even if RTX Spark faces delays in mass production and shipment down the line, the growth momentum of NVIDIA and Microsoft in global AI infrastructure will hardly be impaired. For Apple, however, the commercialization of on-device AI directly determines the sales performance of Mac and iPhone portfolios. Targeting professional developers, content creators and high-end gamers hungry for local AI computing power, RTX Spark is restrained by immature software ecosystem and OS compatibility, making mass penetration impossible in short run. The widespread adoption of AI PC awaits the synchronous maturity of both hardware and software industries.
